The Best 7 Day Detox Cleanse for Weight Loss

By Carrie | Weight Loss

What comes to your mind when you hear detox? Hunger, weird food, kale juice? Enemas! Hey you might feel better in the end but was it really worth all the discomfort and suffering? Would you be interested in a detox cleanse that was all about fabulous great tasting food? A detox that would give you a giant jump start to losing weight, becoming healthy and feeling great! Yes, we all would!

So what is a detox cleanse and how can it help you with weight loss?

A detox cleanse helps your body rid itself of toxins that you are exposed to and consume (highly processed “fake” foods, additives, preservatives and other ingredients that are damaging to your vital organs). Your  body  was designed of course with its own amazing internal detoxification system. Take a brief look at three of your most critical organs involved:

Your Liver

Your first line of defense against toxins is your liver, which acts like a filter to prevent the toxic substances (in what you’re consuming ) from passing into your bloodstream. The role of your liver is crucial for your metabolism and fat breakdown.

Your Colon

Your colon’s main role is to flush out toxic chemicals before they can do you any harm so you want to keep it flowing regularly. It is much like a sewer. The cleaner it is, the better it will function and the healthier and happier you’ll be. And healthier includes a healthy weight!

Your  Kidneys

Your kidneys, like clockwork, are continuously filtering your blood and getting rid of toxins through your urine. When your kidneys don’t work well, not enough urine is produced to remove the extra fluid from your body, causing fluid weight gain. You need to help these vital organs of your body rest and recover, which will give youa  jump start in losing unwanted weight.

How to do a detox cleanse to jump start weight loss?

Before we get into the “how to”, it’s important that you realize you’re going to feel a little icky for a while. It’s not uncommon that when you start a true detox diet, you’ll feel less-than-stellar. In fact, some people feel pretty sick. Remember, the objective of a detox diet is to rid the body of toxins and those toxins have to circulate through your body before they make their way out. So it’s not so surprising that you could deal with headaches, nausea, and cravings a few days into your detox. Getting enough rest and drinking plenty of herbal teas and filtered water can help you get through this phase. Don’t worry, soon you’ll start feeling stable and you’ll eventually feel very energized. Yes, it takes a little time, but you’ll get there.

What is ok to eat during your Detox Cleanse?

Unlimited fresh veggies

such as broccoli and bell peppers.

But limit starchy vegetables to one serving a day such as sweet potatoes and turnips.

But avoid….canned vegetables.

Low-sugar fruit

Such as berries, apples, and peaches.

But limit   bananas and avocado to one-half per day

Avoid  High-sugar fruit such as cherries and grape and dried fruit or fruit juice.

What you can drink

Cut the caffeine with green or herbal teas. You can, of course, drink filtered water and you could make some fresh vegetable juice but it’s best to eat whole fruit/vegetables.

Stay away from high sugar drinks ( including fruit juice) and alcohol.

Use a little Extra Virgin Olive Oil  to dress salads and for sauteing

But avoid all other oils or fats and commercial salad dressings.

Go Ahead and Go Crazy on the Herbs and Spices

Use all herbs and spices – fresh and dried and pepper. And stick to mustard or fresh salsa to liven up your veggies!

Sweeteners?

Stevia is a great choice but it detox time so no, honey etc and no artificial sweeteners.

Can I eat any Protein while on the detox?   Only for Hunger Managment.

We are talking about a 7 day detox and if you really really must, to keep hunger at bay you could eat a little chicken breast or hard boiled eggs. Another healthy choice would be an organic non-GMO plant based protein. Here is an excellent one that contains pre & probiotics and omega 3’s.

Anything else you should be taking during a detox?

There are some excellent cleanse supplements that really help detox the body. Here are the most important that you’ll want to have ready.

A liver detox supplement

It should detox the liver naturally, maintain bile flow and regenerate liver cells. When your liver is overloaded, it tends to store more fat, and fat loves to hold on to toxins!

A natural herb laxative

It should be a natural body cleanser that promotes bowel function as a gentle laxative. ( Over time, drugstore laxatives, can actually weaken your body’s natural ability to go to the bathroom, so definitely avoid those!)

A natural green Superfood

This Superfood should be a diuretic (reduces fluid retention), it should contain Chlorophyll, and should be an excellent body cleanser and detoxifier. It should also bring your body to a more alkaline state (Yes, that’s a very good thing) What meets all these criteria? Alfalfa – you can see where to get it below.

 A Probiotic

Choose one that is triple encapsulated to make sure the healthy bacteria makes it safely to your colon where it’s needed. Good quality supplements are vital to a successful detox cleanse. Click here to learn more.

So make sure you make time to relax, get plenty of sleep, stay hydrated and reap the rewards of more energy, and overall feeling better.

Lose Weight Fast – 7 Easy Ways

By Carrie | Weight Loss

You have probably heard of a number of ways  to lose a lot of weight fast.

Most of them though,  will make you hungry and unsatisfied.

If you don’t have iron willpower, then hunger will cause you to give up on these plans quickly.

What really works are making little lifestyle tweaks—simple moves that help you slash calories, boost nutrition and build a healthy foundation.

Want to learn easy ways to lose weight fast?  Read on to learn some of the easiest, most effective tricks and  tactics.  Put these into play and  you won’t need any goofy new fads—just new pants in a smaller size.

1. Make sure you drink plenty of water

Often, when you think you are hungry, your body is actually craving water. Hydration is so necessary so it’s important that you drink enough water

When you give yourself the water you need,  not only  do you keep those fat toxins moving out of your body, but you also keep your metabolism running at it’s peak.

A new German study found that when you drink 17 ounces of water with a certain time frame, your metabolic rate shoots up by about 30 percent.

Hey remember, the world’s healthiest drink is calorie free so too, so you know it will help you lose weight fast.

2. Just say no to grains

You’ve heard that  grains are practically a health food, right? But consuming them is one of the fastest ways to pack on the pounds.

Grains contain large amounts of carbohydrates, which break down into sugar that your body will store as fat. Do your best to  keep your grain consumption down to one serving or less daily. When you do eat grains, eat only sprouted grains or quinoa, and load up on vegetables!

Let’s not forget the gluten found in most grains can put a strain on your digestive system by increasing  inflammation in your body. And store-bought bread often has added high fructose corn syrup, sugar and preservatives. Not good when you want to lose weight!

3. Eat more good quality Protein

Most people don’t get nearly enough protein in their diet, but increasing your protein intake is a great way to lose weight fast and burn fat.

When you eat more protein you will feel more full and the protein will require more work for your body to digest than the fast-acting refined carbs.

Consuming half your body weight in grams of protein a day (at the very least) is a great goal if your aim is to lose weight. An easy way to get more protein on the go is with a high-quality protein shake. Here is the best Protein Shake to lose weight

4. Add more fiber

Want to feel fuller longer and help reduce sugar cravings?  Eat more foods high in fiber.   When people were told to eat 30 grams of fiber daily, but were given no other dietary changes, they lost a significant amount of weight, according to a study in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

Also, fiber has been proven to  slow the rate that sugar is absorbed into the bloodstream, lower cholesterol, and more. Chances are you’re not consuming enough. The average person only gets 12-18 grams of fiber each day when they should be getting 30-40 grams daily.

5. Make some green tea

When you drink herbal teas such as  matcha green tea, white tea, and rooibos tea (red tea) you are able to amp up your metabolism.

According to a study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, green tea is more effective than other teas like oolong at promoting weight loss because of it’s high levels of catechins.

When you combine green tea with white tea and rooibos tea you have an excellent healthy energy boost which you often can use when losing weight.  So if you want to lose weight fast,  drink 1-3 cups of green tea daily.

6. Do a detox cleanse

A good cleanse involves eating whole foods that are packed with nutrients believed to boost the activity of the enzymes and nourish the body’s most important detoxifying organs—the liver, the lungs, the kidneys, and the colon—so they can do their jobs better and more efficiently. You can use some very beneficial supplements also that will assist the detox process.

Doing a short cleanse or detox is one of the best ways to lose weight fast. Whether it be a few days or weeks, doing a healthy cleanse is highly effective.

 7. Choose healthy fats that are also Superfoods!

I know you might think all fats are on the naughty list, but there are some on the Superfood list too! Yummy foods like avocados, nuts and dark chocolate!

Avocados  contains good fats  that can lower bad cholesterol level and a wide variety of nutrients, including 20 different vitamins and minerals.

Dark chocolate is rich in flavonoids. These antioxidants have been shown to lower blood pressure, improve blood flow, and boost overall heart health.

Traditional weight-loss wisdom says stay away from fatty nuts, but diet experts have learned that nuts are not only  a good source of fiber and protein but many nuts are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, making them a heart-healthy snack.

Enjoy these on a regular basis to reap their health benefits but don’t go overboard because they are calorie dense.

There you have it! Real life simple tactics. It’s still about eating less and moving more, but eating healthy to lose weight fast doesn’t have to be difficult or unpleasant.

Those cabinets full of sugary snacks and salty, over-processed junk food are your first serious roadblock.

To begin with Throw Out All of Your Obviously Terrible Food

Next,  Learn How To Read a Nutrition Label, and Use them to Decide What to Keep.

And finally, Decide on the Difficult Things

Foods that you really want to keep but you know  will probably sabotage your goal to lose weight.  You’ll be more likely to stick with your healthy food plan when you get to the grocery store if you don’t have those temptations waiting for you back at home in the pantry.

2. Pack your own snacks

When you have just five minutes between meetings to grab a snack, that vending machine down the hall starts to look pretty alluring. Skip the vending machine and prepare your own healthy snacks to take to work, school or whenever you’re out and about.

Include protein (from milk, meat or quality soy protein), which offers “staying power,” because it takes longer to digest. One great way to pack protein is with a powerful Protein Shake. Here is the best one for women who want to lose weight.

Packing your own snacks will help you lose weight fast while also giving you the nutrients you need without the icky preservatives from expensive, processed “foods.”

3. Sleep more

If you’re constantly sleeping less than seven or eight hours a night, your health — and waistline — will suffer. A chronic lack of sleep  is linked to obesity, diabetes and more.

One reason is the longer you’re awake, the more likely you are have late night snacks, which can cause you to gain up to two pounds a week, according to researchers at the University of Pennsylvania.

And  in a 2013 study, researchers found that sleep-deprived subjects were much more likely to choose larger portions of snacks than those who slept at least eight hours at night. The lack of sleep also affected their food choices.

 4. Stock pile healthy snacks at home

Keep your cabinets and refrigerator stocked with fresh, healthy snacks so they’re front and center. You can create your own small portion snacks in plastic bags or containers.

Wash fresh fruits and veggies as soon as you get home from the store and store them in glass or nice bowls on the counter or refrigerator shelf. It keeps them visible so you remember to eat them!  Whenever you need a snack, they’re already prepped!

 5. Slow down!

When you eat slowly, you digest better. You lose or maintain weight more easily. Yet you also feel more satisfied with each meal.

When you eat fast, it’s easy to overeat. It takes about 20 minutes for your stomach to register that it’s full. While you chew, your brain is processing that you are eating, and chewing releases enzymes for pre-digestion in your saliva to start the digestion process.

The benefits of slow eating include better digestion, better hydration, easier weight loss or maintenance, and greater satisfaction with our meals.

6.Don’t shop on an empty stomach

You have the best of intentions to fill the grocery cart with lots of produce and healthy protein.

if you shop while hungry, don’t be surprised if you come home, open your bag and ask, “What was I thinking when I bought this?”

When it comes to the science behind ravenous food choices, low blood sugar levels can create ravenous tendencies – craving and reaching for any food in sight. So make sure you’re not hungry!

And be prepared and tackle the store with a grocery list.

Shop the perimeter of the store, as nutritious choices are apt to be available – fresh produce, lean proteins, and dairy products.

7. Small Plates Lose Weight!

When it comes to eating less, researchers have long known that a simple way to cut calories is for you to use a smaller plate.  This simple change can help you lose more than 10 pounds over the course of a year.

It sounds crazy but it really works! The same amount of food looks like less  on your larger plates,  so trick your brain into eating less by serving your main dish on salad-sized plates instead of dinner ones.  When you combine this with eating slower and more intentionally, you will enjoy your food more and eat less!

8. Treat yourself!

Yes, you have been working hard and  your body is thanking you for making healthier choices. It’ now time to treat yourself. But don’t tie these “rewards” to food. What about  splurging on that new tennis racquet you’ve been wanting or indulge in a manicure. You’ve earned it!

9.  Allow yourself a cheat meal

When you’re first getting used to a eating more healthy, cheating a little can take the wind out of those cravings and keeps your week on track.

We are not talking about an entire day! But a cheat MEAL. Eat what you’d like during that meal  and then continue with your healthy lifestyle so you can stay on target to lose that weight.

Start with one cheat meal a week and gradually scale back. And you’ll be surprised how quickly those foods you loved, aren’t so appealing, especially when you realize how poorly they make you feel after.

5 Ways to Use Green Tea for Weight Loss

By Carrie | Weight Loss

Green tea is the healthiest beverage on the planet. Bold claim, right? Let’s look at just how magical it is and how it can help you lose that extra weight you want to get rid of.

1. Green Tea Contains Antioxidants That Can Help You Lose Fat

Where green tea really shines is in its massive range of antioxidants including polyphenols called catechins.

They help prevent the damaging effects on your metabolism by reducing rancid fats or oxidation.

And the most important of these is EGCG,  a substance that can boost metabolism. And green tea (especially Matcha green tea) has plenty of them!

2. Green Tea Can Boost your Metabolism And Make You Burn More Calories

Your body is constantly burning calories.

Even when you are sleeping or sitting down, your cells are performing billions of functions that require energy.

Several studies suggest that green tea can make you burn more calories even at rest.

Remember the Catechins in green tea that we mentioned earlier? These increase calorie burning without changing your calorie intake!

In one study of 60 obese individuals, the group taking green tea extract lost 7.3 lbs (3.3 kg) and burned 183 more calories per day after 3 months!

3. Green Tea Can Help Break Down the Fat From your Fat Cells

In order to burn fat, your body must first break it down in the fat cell and move it into your bloodstream.

The substances in green tea increase levels of hormones that tell fat cells to break down fat. This releases fat into the bloodstream and makes it available as energy. I like the sound of this!

4. Green Tea Increases Fat Burning, Especially when You are Exercising

If you look at the label of almost every commercial weight loss and fat burning supplement, you will probably find some kind of tea there as an ingredient.

Why? Because green tea extract can boost the burning of fat.

How do you know this? In studies, green tea has been shown repeatedly to increase the burning of fat, especially during exercise.

Green Tea Can Help You Lose the Belly Fat

You know that visceral fat, (the belly fat that builds up around your organs), is very harmful. How? Well this “belly fat “causes inflammation and insulin resistance, both of which are strongly linked to all sorts of serious diseases, including type 2 diabetes and heart disease. You’ll be happy to know that several studies on green tea show a significant percentage of the fat lost is the harmful visceral fat.

And hey, let’s not forget that green tea goes way beyond just helping lose those unwanted extra pounds. It is also terribly healthy for tons of reasons! You can lose weight while sipping on a health drink! Not a bad deal.

Here are some tips on drinking Green Tea for weight loss

How to drink it hot or cold

If you make a cup of hot tea, take a little extra care, as boiling water is bad for the precious catechins (tea’s healthy chemicals). Simply pour hot water over your tea and brew for about one minute before serving. Of course, you can adjust the brew time depending on your taste.

Tea Before Dinner

Before you head out to dinner, pour yourself a cup of green tea. The active ingredient in green tea, EGCG, boosts levels of cholecystokinin, or CCK, a hunger-quelling hormone.

In a Swedish study, tea-sippers report less of a desire to eat their favorite foods (even two hours after sipping the brew), and they found those foods to be less satisfying. So maybe you won’t over eat!

Meet for Tea Time with a Friend

A new study in the journal Hormones and Behavior found that those who feel lonely experience greater circulating levels of the appetite-stimulating hormone ghrelin after they eat, causing them to feel hungrier sooner. Meet with a friend and enjoy a cup together. All kinds of benefits here!

Drink it first thing in the morning

A study found that when you drink green tea at least 30 minutes before your first meal of the day, it allows for the best possible absorption of EGCG, the magic nutrient in green tea.

Keep your tea out of the sunlight

The active ingredients in teas are highly unstable under sunlight so keep your tea in a dark, dry place. If you brew iced tea, it will stay good for about 4 days, as long as you keep it refrigerated.

You don’t need to drink a lot of green tea to help you lose weight. Weight loss benefits have been found by drinking as little as 2.5 cups of green tea per day.  Green tea really makes a move on your fat cells and drains them away, even when we’re not making the smartest dietary choices.
